a little saturday post of appreciation

. . . yesterday at the start of my sacred block of art time i found myself, almost one hour later, still entrenched in my google reader. eeek, i thought, what am i doing with my time, it's disappearing and i've not got anything started yet. . . and lo and behold the same thing is happening today {i have a couple of hours to work on saturdays, pre-cricket}. what am i doing!?
answer: finding loads of inspiration, catching up, and incredibly – finding answers {which will save so much time}!
thanks janellelile for this post – some very valuable photoshop tricks :)
thanks heather for this post – some visual inspiration {and excellent work}. just looking at this post made something that has been circling around in my brain unsolved click right into place : )

{. . . my new banner, which is also in progress – it's a little too blurry!}

itching!

to start on these! i've been wanting to get back into painting for a while now, but haven't due to lack of time. and finally, after lots of family visits and family commitments, i may just dive in! well tomorrow or tuesday - just thought i'd share the joy of new art supplies!

fresh ocean colours

this collage is part of an ongoing series called 'little piece of the ocean' which i feel could be endless! oceans provide me with a constant source of inspiration for a few reasons: the colours resonate with me and will always be my favourite and my mother's ashes were scattered into the waves of a beach on the north coast of new south wales almost 20 years ago. i guess the later detail is most significant yet also alive somewhere in the back of my mind – i don't really think about these things as i work . . .

i love the colours and cool freshness in this treasury curated by enhabiten, thanku – my grey ocean drawing sits proudly among the others.

the perils of blog reading

– having access to the work and writings of so many creative types has recently had me in a spin!
. . . sometimes i think i'll have a quick look at {. . . . } before i start my work and find myself following link after link until my brain becomes over-inspired and overdone. then i think about my own work and feel a little scattered! i find the best thing to do is to step back and let the images and ideas {and wealth of inspiration} settle like sieved flour into the bowl and just hope that they rise up later transformed and nicely cooked, with my own flavour . . .
i used to feel this sensation when i read wallpaper magazine in its really early days.
here is an image that i found in our filing cabinet {no idea where it came from prior}. i've had it near my desk since.
