my creative space shop sorting: spoonflower + society6

hello!

after thinking and thinking, i decided to moved my fabric collection from my etsy shop to my new spoonflower shop. i thought i'd try this option for ease, time management issues and cost ~ it's way more affordable now! will see how it goes.

i got really inspired by the email from society6 this morning about making new throw cushions and thought of having this design in hot pink! was wishing for neon pink and orange, but don't know if that can be done. i have a new design almost done too ~ just need more time.

also, society6 have free shipping until monday .  .  .

i've spent most of my creative time in the last 2 weeks in this space ~ it's actually pretty bright even tho the photo is dodgy! ~ making fabric patterns. i've just ordered samples for 15 designs. can't wait to see how they turn out.

looking forward to heading back to the other desk to start some painting ~ which sadly, is in the cold end of the house . . .

i've been feeling kind of blah lately and possibly a little burnt out ~ i might have pushed it too far with the intense non-creative work burst over the holidays . . . and also having appointments slotted into the creative time in the first week of getting back into things, doesn't help . . .

thankfully, i think i'm at the tail end of it. i'm trying to let go of 'grand plans which won't happen for a year and a half' and taking it slowly and working in stints on the top painting and trying out a simple idea in the bottom one {on paper}. am into black with blue at the moment!

so great to have 'my creative space' back for the start of the new term. school's back!!

the one at the top ~ 'theory' is finished and the other two are in progress. they are/will be acrylic, pencil, pinholes and stitching on paper.

painting these pieces inspired a trip to the art supply shop this morning. i had spotted the most beautiful gouache paints ever {over the holidays}, and have also been obsessing about water colours, which i think might work better for what i'm trying to do with the bottom layer. i was very restrained and bought only a couple of colours to try them out . . . am sure i'll get back to the shop soon. {i don't shop for shoes very often!!}

thankyou for the lovely birthday wishes! the weekend was lots of fun and i was completely spoilt!
almost feeling back to normal now :)

i've been working on my computer this week {and last week} ~ making large prints. being grown up = having a new printer that will print on a grand scale and on extra beautiful paper! the photo is quite dodgy~ the sun is out today and i have the blinds down. not complaining at all though . . .

the big ones will slowly make their way to the new section in my shop.

the week has flown by!
have been working on paper and the computer . . . making holes with a pin, stitching, painting, drawing, and playing with the first idea for fabric. fun! and lots to learn!

my creative space ~ re connecting

our phone and internet was disconnected this week . . . you can imagine the disarray! it's a particular kind of disconnected, hands tied behind the back kind of feeling. we've got a temporary solution {no phone} and it's going to be 1000 times better when it's all fixed up, sometime soon. i can see how a break from the internet can be healthy, but only when if/you're ready for it!

. . . mr 3 and i went out in the rain to take garden photos and i put some stitching detail into the almost finished work in the top photo.

i chose a space in a favourite cafe this morning to clear my head after the school/kinder drop off.

the woman sitting next to me leaned over and asked: 'what are you doing? are you designing fabric?' then she said she liked it!

so there it is. that's the other thing i want to be doing!

the new desk is not looking so new anymore~ which is ok with me.

a couple of new prints and some paintings and sketches in progress on the desk today. feeling a lot more relaxed with the different directions happening at the same time ~ sketching/trying out new things, quickly as they come up helps. just need a few more days in a row {universal truth}!

every time i do a stint of digital colouring i go through a shake up!
it makes me question why i'm doing it, what i'm trying to achieve that i can't achieve with non~digital work. and what is it i'm trying to do with my non~digital work again??
i left it alone for a bit and found these leaves from the real world {they've been a source of inspiration many times} and got out the gouache and markers and did some drawing by hand! i did put them together digitally and painted the red in photoshop in the last image. the little ones are gouache on chalk board paint.
i get a feeling that my work is going in many directions at the same time, which is exciting but also comes with a weird sense of guilt! not entirely sure where that comes from, but it could have something to do with thoughts/theories that come from having an online shop and 'branding' {kind of the opposite of free art~making}, the pull between graphic design {the past} and fine art {my real passion} and what i should be doing . . . eeeek, the pressure!!
do you ever tie yourself up in these kinds of knots about your work?? does it always come before a calm, resolved feeling?? {fingers crossed}.

thanks so much for the lovely comments and feedback on the last post. it's really interesting to hear your thoughts. i always check with my people at home too ~ i ask them individually so nobody is influenced by anyone else! ~ they all picked the one with black!

this is the drawing that i used for the udessi tote bag competition ~ re-worked into a print. i used photoshop rather than illustrator for this as i prefer the look of raw drawn lines over the clean vector lines.

also been thinking about the a giveaway to go with the first newsletter, which i hope to have done this time next week ~ sign up if you'd like to join in!! ------>

my creative space is starting again for the new year ~ which is a good thing. i like the weekly structure that comes with playing along . . .

i've been working on this embroidery on and off over the holidays. i just didn't feel finished with this shape, from the crochet wall hanging that i've still yet to back.

the tricky part was figuring out how to transfer the drawing onto the dark linen. i printed a re-sised version of the pencil drawing, cut it out {just inside the line} then traced around it with a clover {love clover products!!} white marking pen, which irons off. i tried a couple of other not so great methods which didn't make me give up at all!

the question now is, how to finish the back! i've cut the linen around the cirlce so that it's flush-ish with the back of the wood and left the stitching exposed. i guess it's only the wall looking at my knots!

after a strange start to the day: the coffee machine broke as i was making my coffee and thinking: i shouldn't be drinking coffee, i wonder if i'd replace this machine if it broke {might help me give it up}. . . never think such things!

came a kind of scattered space: vastly different things pulling me in different directions. . . these paintings needed varnishing {finally put the first coat on}, an early christmas present arrived in the mail {made me think of more christmas presents that need work/buying}, i needed a few extra things from spotlight {bought pip's book and want to make at least 3 things by tomorrow ~ should re-read her advice at the back of the book!!}, orders to pack/post and the hanging system for the little collages to make/test . . . a crazy picture here.

i've been working on packaging design for the garlands ~ they need to be tangle free, bend proof and waterproof . . .

have also been playing shop. etsy have developed a coupon/discount system which looks easy to use. i'm going to use it for black friday ~ cyber monday. this code: 'mycreativespace' {without the ' '} gets a 10% discount on all things in my shop, including originals. starting early!

going where the ideas take me this week ~ which is all over the place i guess! i'm having fun with the little pieces, they are really no threat. great for liberating ideas and trying things out.

had/have lots of things i need to do on the computer ~ but ~ i felt an overwhelming need to get to the other desk!
making mini collages on wood, some with stitching. am hoping to try out another hanging idea when some supplies arrive.

thanks for all the great comments on the last few posts ~ it's been fun {and a bit exhausting!!}.

i've been finding a groove with the garlands. they have been fun to make ~ love the sound the needle makes chugging through the paper. this one is with blue thread. i bought a paper punch to ease up the measuring and cutting process and some new coloured threads. will keep playing . . .

having a lot of fun getting side tracked with the recycled print projects. making gift tags and stitching together pieces that i kept to one side. i have an idea for these, but it's a little vague . . .
