getting ready for christmas

we are having fun getting ready for christmas. the silver tree is very small and actually has some decorations on it now {including a row of white flowers around the bottom, thanks to mr 6yr old}.
the present i'm most excited about is this t-shirt for hubby ~ a screenprint of one of mr 6's drawings! i hadn't screen printed anything since high school, but i have a couple of books on the topic and a little help from an art teacher {over the phone!} . . . it turned out ok! i had to paint in some of the lines afterwards as the paper i used in between the layers of the shirt were a bit jumbled rather than padded and flat {always in a hurry here}. no matter!
it was so lovely to trace/paint the drawing that i watched my son make ~ i really wanted to keep all his lines as they were. {to see the drawing and print properly, click on the image to go to flickr}.

are you organised for christmas yet??

That shirt is such a great idea! My daughter is just getting to the point where I could use some of her drawings like that. Hmmm....

Good stuff. The silver Xmas tree reminds me of our family's very first tree. It got a bit rusty in the end!! Love the tshirt, it will be a super special gift - I'm absolutely hanging out to do some screen printing - but there's not a whole lot of room for such things in our modest apartment. Great colour choice btw! Am I organised for Chrissy?... not particularly!!

The drawing of your son is really phantastic and this shirt is great. I would love to do screen printing. I happy about any instruction how to do it homemade! Wish you all a nice sunday.

p.s. very curious about the method you used - did you burn a screen?

I love that 6-7 year old boy obsession with star wars exists all around the world...and what a special way to use your sons drawings! It came out perfect

thanku!

a screenprinting workshop would be excellent! we should all go.

kylie ~ i used the drawing fluid and screen filler method. i didn't spread the screen filler very well, and had to spread it more than once, making the drawing fluid hard to wash out! bit of mucking around and reapplying screen filler after scrubbing . . .

lots to learn!
