connecting the dots

there's a certain {good} tension that comes with making collage. it involves the pull between the thinking mind and the intuitive mind, and i love it when intuition wins! or at least directs.

i have lots of work that is lying around at stage 1. i might've had half an idea {just a feeling that i'm trying to record} or an idea as an offshoot of something else. it seems that often i'm not sure where i'm going with it . . . so i leave it at the start.

then today, as i was in this collage work mode the penny dropped! some of the half ideas may have been the beginnings of a new direction. i'm still not sure entirely what that entails. it also, could be one of many possible directions.

it gets confusing sometimes, working on so many different things, a little at a time. but it keeps it fun.

hope to do a shopping post soon 8)
happy friday! what are you up to this weekend?

I remember reading once that there has to be a particular kind of balance between the work and the artist:
if the artist gets done everything s/he intended on the canvas- the work might be beautiful, but sterile and boring;
if the work is allowed to take the upper hand- it also might come out beautiful, but chaotic and wild;
the gold nugget is to strike that balance point, a perfect tension between art and artist, where neither 'wins' but both are happy.
Now, wishing you a happy result of the balancing game between Gretchenmist and collage!

I love these, Belinda. They remind me of my childhood where I was one of those being obsessed with 'connect the dots'. I especially love the orange/red/striped one.

I like the dots!! I have a lot of projects that need attention too. I seem to be very easily distracted these days and don't make my way back getting things done. Here is to hoping for some focus!

It is so good to see that a love of making can return afterwards. I am eyeing off a sketch book and pen and thinking collage may be a good step back in... Thanks!
