my creative space

no childcare today ~ so i thought i'd show some progress on this painting . . . looking over unfinished work while unpacking has renewed my interest! i thought the white was too dominating, but i think with the plans i have, it might be ok.
and i've finally started making something with this yarn. it has been keeping me company and providing colour inspiration for a while now :)

hope you are having a creative day! pop into kirsty's for more spaces or to play along.

my creative space

{***i know i promised no more dark photos, however . . . the middle pic explains things}

so pleased to be at my desk after 5 days of looking after the kids on my own this week! my father-in-law died last week and my husband took off up north. it took me most of this morning {the first day off} to be able to focus/speak etc . . . it hasn't been a pretty picture!

anyhooo, i slipped into another world making this collage. the bottom pic shows the almost finished version. it's actually finished, but the sky seems just too bleak to capture any detail for now! will try again soon.

hope you are having a fun time in your space! pop over to kootoyoo for more spaces :)

my creative space

my space needs attention and energy! i spent a whole day putting it together, but that was just unpacking and putting things on shelves, in drawers and in piles on the desk and floor. i'll get there!
the huge task that i'm about to start is photographing finished work ~ there's lots!! but i'm not scared as the light is good!
the top pic is some home made wrapping paper my little one and i made yesterday ~ my first creative effort in the new house.
pop over to kootoyoo for more spaces/to play along.
happy creative space day :)

my creative space

getting the party ready in this new painting.
i'm working on making holes for these drawings while the paint dries! you know how it is time-wise, and when you can't decide you dither between. . .
new colours, bought on the weekend. i have been craving the brightest oranges and pinks ~ it's an ongoing craving, which is getting stronger as the days get colder and greyer!

happy creative space day!
~ lots of spaces over at kirsty's.

my creative space

i'm working on small drawings with embroidery thread this week.
still feel like i am hopping from one project to another! i guess the goal is to catch the ideas while they are building instead of letting them slowly fizzle.

happy creative space day!

my creative space

still going on the digital colouring . . . this is an older drawing i decided to work on. i spent hours and hours cleaning up the paper reflection/glare/yellowing around the lines of the drawing! i still haven't found a quick way of doing this! playing with the levels seems to jeopardise the soft quality of the pencil lines, which i want to keep. so, i ummed and ahhhed as to whether or not i really want to spend that long making these and thought i'd re-evaluated after finishing one. the possible colour combinations are endless!
i also tried drawing with pens on smooth paper ~ much easier to get rid of the background. but the lines are flat/mostly solid colour ~ see second pic {a quickly made example}.

some feedback from our art-teacher friend who was holding the original drawings and standing near the computer: 'i don't want to look at that' {the computer}!!

i'll keep weighing up the options :)

my creative space

i making a painting for my dad's 60th birthday present, which is coming up this month.

the view of these hills overlooking the river is what made my parents decide to move to the north coast of new south wales {many years ago!}.

when i see this kind of landscape in the flesh, i think it's beautiful too, but i don't generally feel an urge to paint it! but when i took a photo of the family and saw this view in the background through the window behind them, all blurred and slightly washed out ~ suddenly, it clicked for me. this is what i wanted to paint. the blurred, semi-abstract version.

hoping dad likes it. i have to remember to refrain from adding orange so as not to give him a headache.

happy thursday :)

my creative space

i have been making a print of this painting today. and making a dodgy packet vanilla cake! i've had a craving for chocolate cake for weeks {probably started around the time i stopped having chocolate + coffee etc} and i have a throat virus/cold . . . so a little cake and baby steps with the huge long list of things i want to do!

to see more spaces or to play too, visit kirsty. happy creative space day!

p.s. i have made progress with the skirts, i just need a bright day for photos. not so much progress with my display photos ~ the paint looks great as a background, but the lighting issue is very tricky as usual!

my creative space . outdoors

i'm making the equivalent of a light box for small things for my display photos! our house is a dodgy dark old rented caravan in the winter, and while we have been house hunting for the last 12 months on and off, i thought it time to improvise! {i saw a wheelie bin with a big real estate LEASED sticker plastered on it last week and thought: this really sums up the house hunting experience in melbourne thesedays! it's fairly out of control.}
anyway, i'll be dragging my portable wall panel to the best light source.
the next 2 coats will be a chalkboard paint which i'm hoping will be a dark blue-green grey rather than the standard black. i have high hopes for this board! i can see many things sitting on and against it. fingers crossed that the colour looks good in photos.

hoping you are having fun in your space today. visit kirsty for more spaces or to play too.
happy thursday!

my creative space . making prints

mucking around with these paintings in photoshop, making prints and listening to the new joanna newson cd properly for the first time. i like these wood panels, they have rounded corners in real life! just a little sanding required to make them the right kind of rounded.
hoping to do some painting too, but need to go and buy inks . . .

these ones are music festival 1 + 2.
remember those? pitch a tent and pretend that you'll come back and sleep in it!

hope you are having a fun time in your space today. visit kirsty to see more.

creative space . wood panels

the light is missing from my space today!! but i've made a start on a few of the new wood panels. i'm still tenting! the tents are such a satisfying form to paint ~ and i'm in need of a holiday, can you tell?
i've made some thankyou prints with this 'honeymoon suite' tent painting to go with the orders from the birthday sale.
i hope you are having some fun in your space today. to see more spaces visit kirsty here.

my creative space . more digital

most of my creative time was spent getting my haircut short today ~ my hairdresser is on the other side of the city, so a bit of time in the car too + not all stress free!
i'm dying to get painting on my new boards, but i ran out of time. so i sank the short left over time into the computer!
thanks to janelle for the texture advice on these :) i need to remove the 'blur' around the marks, which is the texture of the paper in the background that i haven't cleaned up.
i'm not sure about the texture in this one {it was made by rubbing back the pencil and re-drawing a couple of times on paper}. it translates here as a kind of marble effect, and it's a bit faded! hoping to find more time to experiment!

happy creative space day! pop into kirsty's for more spaces :)

my creative space

some lonely little paintings calling from my desk! waiting to be finished and varnished.
today i'm at the computer, working, working, working.

happy thursday + happy creative! visit kirsty for more creative spaces.

** thanks to cathy for this very lovely post {i think you will love her blog} and colette paperie for this one :)

my creative space . a start

i think mid-december = a universal push for time!

i managed to start this cutting today ~ only had 1.5 hours up my sleeve . . . have had the idea in my head for nearly 2 weeks. it had gelled, but when i sat down it was mostly gone! hoping it will re-visit when i get a little more time

. . . i had a little help on the sketch/doodle with the trees!

. . . am getting more and more obsessed with these flowers :)

hope you felt calm + creative in your space today!
for more spaces, visit kirsty {big thanks to kirsty and you for making thursdays so fun + meaningful}.

my creative space

i feel so lucky to be alive and in my creative space today ~ even thought i've been working on what is usually my least favourite of the tasks: making prints + taking photos {only my least fav, due to the hours at the computer}.

we've had food poisoning this week {hubby + i} and i'm so happy to have come out the other side. it's one thing to be feeling sick and quite another to try to look after the kids at the same time . . .

anyway, here are some new prints that i'm aiming to list in the shop tonite!
hope you're enjoying your creative time/space today.

my creative space . the walk to my desk!

my creative space starts {if i'm lucky} on the walk home from kinder/childcare. i try to clear my head and focus on what i'll be working on . . . it's only a 5 minute walk unless i stop and look!
not sure what i'm doing with these drawings ~ i have a couple of ideas, but am thinking too hard about how to go about them. thinking too hard makes me feel a little blocked! i guess the thing is, that i like them as simple drawings but feel that they need to be something else somehow. this usually involves scanning + photoshop or painting, then scanning then photoshop . . .

hope you are having a joyous time in your creative space today. for lots more visit kirsty.

my creative space

the parties are all done with and my dad flew home last night ~ so this morning i had a chance to get to my desk + re-connect with some of my creative plans!
these new supplies arrived a couple of days ago ~ very exciting. they are bigger than the pieces i use for the pendants and brooches and i'm hoping to make something new with them . . .
i'm also trying to finish a landscape painting i started a while ago, the idea of painting with white is very appealing right now :)
hope you are enjoying your space today. visit kirsty for many more spaces + to play along.
