my creative space

i making a painting for my dad's 60th birthday present, which is coming up this month.

the view of these hills overlooking the river is what made my parents decide to move to the north coast of new south wales {many years ago!}.

when i see this kind of landscape in the flesh, i think it's beautiful too, but i don't generally feel an urge to paint it! but when i took a photo of the family and saw this view in the background through the window behind them, all blurred and slightly washed out ~ suddenly, it clicked for me. this is what i wanted to paint. the blurred, semi-abstract version.

hoping dad likes it. i have to remember to refrain from adding orange so as not to give him a headache.

happy thursday :)

So nice! I love this kind-of-abstract but recognizable look. And I agree, a little orange would be fabulous but it's always important to keep the recipient in mind :)

I love it, I wish I could be your Dad (in a strange way but without changing and only so you would paint me a picture for my birthday). He is one lucky man - and if he doesn't like tell him he can send it over to me. I miss Australia.

OOh, this painting is amazing.

No problem: if your dad does not like it just pass it to me :-))) I also have a b-day sometime in the year :-))))

Anyways: happy 60 for your dad!

(When my dad became 60, he decided to tell everyone that he is 48. And he keeps doing this :-))) )

This is beautiful. It really does look like a memory or daydream of a landscape; I love the feelings the cool colors evoke. :)

Gorgeous! Funny, when I looked at it, the first thing I thought was "oh, if she just put a little orange..." ha ha! I think we have very similar tastes in pallette... it's beautiful though — both visually as in its thoughtfulness! He will love it for both reasons, undoubtably.
